GCSE English Equivalency Test

GCSE English Equivalency exams could be what you need if you are looking to enrol on a higher education course that requires either a GCSE or GCSE equivalent. This is normally required for entry for courses like QTS teacher training, nursing and midwifery.
Skipton Tutors have been working closely alongside A Star Equivalency, who are a leading provider of GCSE English Equivalency exams across the country. They are accepted by the majority of training course providers. (But always check before booking!)
We want to recommend A Star to you simply as well because of their easy to book system on the website. We understand that you may have a very busy schedule already, so A Star has made sure that you either have the option to use their calendar and choose a cheaper day to sit the exam or to simply book now but choose the date later.

The GCSE English Equivalency exam is based on the AQA English Language specification - however with a few slight modifications in order to make the exam more accessible for those who have been out of education for a while.
The GCSE English Equivalency exam consists of 2 papers : a reading and a writing paper. On the exam day, you will have 2 hours and 10 minutes for the exam and is marked altogether out of 100, which decides your grade as a percentage with corresponding grades 1-9. Most providers require a minimum of a level 4 (grade C), sometimes they may require higher so be sure to check!

All of the GCSE English Equivalency exams are now sat in the comfort of your own home. So on the exam day all you will need is : a computer/laptop with a webcam & strong internet access, pen & lined paper, ID and your smartphone in order to submit your answers if you write your answers on the paper.
On the exam day, you will be sent a zoom link to ensure that you are monitored properly by your invigilator. You will then be sent a link to the exam where you will be required to sit for a period of 2 hours 10 minutes. Your exam will consist of two papers. Your first paper is Section A which is the reading section (you will have 1 hour and 25 minutes to complete this section and is worth 60 marks). Then you will sit your second paper straight after. The second paper is Section B which is the writing section (you will have 45 minutes to complete this section and this is worth 40 marks).
Upon sitting your exam, you will receive your results within 10 working days or 24-72 hours if you have paid extra to fast track your results.
